What Is Thrush Disease?

Thrush is a hoof infection in the horse’s foot due to a bacterial condition and sometimes caused by fungi.

What Is White Line Disease?

Like thrush, white line disease is a fungal infection in the horse’s foot that invades the horse’s white lining in the foot.

Is Maintaining My Horses Hooves Really That Important?

YES! Maintaining your horse’s feet on a daily basis— at the very least 3 times per week— is one of the most serious responsibilities a horse owner can have. Cleaning, inspecting, removing debris, rocks, and manure from your horse’s feet is paramount to the health and performance of your horse. Working with a qualified, dedicated farrier who will partner with you to ensure that your horses feet are well-cared for- and inspected- every six weeks is vital. Thrush and Whiteline are serious if left untreated.

Does My Horse Have Thrush Or White Line?

Your horse will emit a foul-smelling odor and a black discharge coming from the central sulcus of the frog. It is a degenerative infection that eats away at the live tissue. It can cause discomfort and all-out lameness in horses if not treated properly. Whiteline is often seen as a white, chalky, crumbling area around the wall of the hoof. Check with your farrier — and apply Grooms Hand immediately until symptoms disappear.
